Its action takes place in Poland in the 13th century. On the Krakow throne is Leszek the White, a kind, pious, but weak prince. Enemies are plotting against him and fighting for power. Bishop Ivo, a friend of the prince, in fear for his life, gathers all his friends around the throne. He also calls his brother Mshshchuy, nicknamed Valigura for his strength, for help from a remote, wild castle.
