A collection of the final series of lectures by British philosopher, cultural theorist, publisher and activist Mark Fisher (1968-2017), given at Goldsmiths College, University of London in 2016. Beginning with the most fundamental of questions, “Do we really want what we say we want?”, Fisher explores the relationship between desire and capitalism and tries to understand what new forms of desire we might still be able to draw from the past, present, and future. From the rise and fall of the counterculture in the 1970s to the further development of his left-wing accelerationist line of thinking, this book represents a tragically interrupted course of reflection on the cultivation of a new type of consciousness and its cultural consequences.
