The French poet Andre Chénier (1762-1794), who died on the scaffold during the French Revolution, became one of the legendary figures of European literature: the creator of wonderfully harmonious, light and melodic poems, who preferred to remain in the literary “shadow”, he recklessly rushed in the fight against violence and mass madness, knowingly knowing about their doom and choosing death.
