The 9th volume of the Collected Works of A. M. Remizov includes one of the last significant works of the emigrant period of the writer’s work - the “hundred-chapter story”, “convict idyll” “The Music Teacher”. This is another genre experiment by Remizov. Using an unusual form, he unfolds before the reader a panorama of life in Russian Paris in the 1920s and 1930s. The book gives vivid portraits of representatives of the spiritual elite of the first wave of emigration (N. Berdyaev, Lev Shestov, I. Ilyin, P. Suvchinsky, etc.), and grotesquely presents the vicissitudes of literary polemics of famous periodicals of the Russian Diaspora. Descriptions of the real life of the author and his environment are interspersed with images of the world of legends and fairy tales. The book “The Music Teacher” is published for the first time in Russia based on a typesetting manuscript from Remizov’s Parisian archive.
