In this article the author is Kasymov Sh.R. based on an analysis of extensive material from the media published on the Internet recently, he sets out his vision of one of the options for countering floods in Kazakhstan (and other countries) by creating compensating ponds in the upper reaches of rivers and settling ponds in the middle reaches of these rivers. Specifically, he dwells on compensating ponds and, in relation to the Irgiz River basin, theoretically developed such a pond, its approximate location, dimensions, layout of the main elements and determined the approximate cost of its creation, shows the advantages of its activities to residents and business entities in the region.
