The new collected works of Genrikh Sapgir is an attempt not only to bring together most of what was written by the remarkable Russian poet and prose writer of the second half of the 20th century, but also to create some integral image of this unique (even for this period of our literature) universal writer. He not only wrote with equal pleasure for adults and for children, but also seemed to embody in words the Larionov-Goncharov concept of “everythingness”: a combination of all previously known ideas, manners and techniques of modern writing, at the same time radically avant-garde and extremely rooted in the deepest national tradition and conducting a constant provocative dialogue with it. The first volume of the “Voices” collection includes works of different genres by Genrikh Sapgir, united by the idea of dialogue - with poets, predecessors and contemporaries, with social language models and metaphysical forces. Sapgir acts either as an opponent interlocutor, or as a translator of foreign languages, or as an artist-researcher of human (and non-human) polyphony.
