Philosophical Pieces was published in 1844 under the pseudonym “Johannes Climacus” and, like Kierkegaard’s previous books, made the reading public more interested in the author than in his work. However, the reaction of critics this time was unusual. They acted as if the book did not exist. The silence of literary circles could be explained by its scientific character. But to understand the motives that forced the philosophical community to pass over the treatise (apart from two anonymous notes, which most likely showed that the reviewers did not have the patience to read it to the end), such simple explanations will not be enough. The central question of the book is the historicity not of Scripture, but of the Coming itself - the truth, whose eternity is realized in human history and has no other realization than a temporary one.
