Robert Louis Stevenson's collection "Ballads" was first published at the end of 1890. It contained five ballads in English based on Polynesian and Scottish stories. The Russian-speaking reader is primarily familiar with the ballad “Heather Ale” from this collection, published in 1941 in a translation by Samuil Yakovlevich Marshak under the title “Heather Honey”, and later even included in the Soviet school curriculum. Surprisingly, the two title ballads of the collection and the largest of them, “Song of Rahero” and “Feast of Hunger”, have not yet been published in Russian. In this book, the reader can get acquainted with Stevenson's complete translation of this collection, as well as learn a lot of additional information about the stories told in it from the translator Chiara Varotari.
