The Institute of Russian Literature (Pushkin House) of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the St. Petersburg publishing house "Dmitry Bulanin" in the 40th volume of PSRL published an outstanding monument of Ukrainian chronicle writing of the 17th century, the Gustyn Chronicle, which sets out the history of Ukraine and its neighbors from foundation of Kyiv before 1597. The first publication was published in 1843, in an appendix to the Ipatiev Chronicle, which makes the long-awaited complete edition even more valuable, even with the caveat that the text is printed only according to a single list of the chronicle, without summing up the variants. The original of the Gustyn Chronicle has not survived. The authorship and time of writing have not been reliably established. One of the researchers of the chronicle, A. Ershov, expressed the opinion that the chronicle was compiled in 1623-1627. cultural and church figure Zakharia Kopystensky. A list has been preserved, rewritten in 1670 by the hieromonk of the Gustynsky Monastery, Mikhail Lositsky. In the preface to the Gustyn Chronicle, the scribe emphasizes the importance for people of the historical traditions of its people and calls for the dissemination of historical knowledge. The most famous lists of the 17th century are: Gustynsky, Mgarsky and Archivsky. The first part of the chronicle is close in content to the Ipatiev Chronicle, the 2nd (independent) part, covering the events of 1300-1597, is short.
