Isaac Newton is well known as one of the founders of modern natural science, and only recently have historians of science begun to pay serious attention to his alchemical, hermetic and theological research. Meanwhile, the analysis of this side of the scientist’s work allows us to better understand the features of European intellectual life in the 16th-17th centuries. The main task of the author of the proposed monograph is to show the integrity of Newton’s worldview, the deep interconnection of all facets of his activity - the search for true religion, the creation of natural philosophy “perfect in all its parts” and the definition of the “active principles of Nature”, because, according to Newton, only mechanical actions “not able to give birth to all the diversity of things.” The book is of interest not only for specialists (historians, philosophers, physicists, chemists and biologists), but also for a wide range of readers interested in philosophy and history of science.
