“Yamato-monogatari”, “The Tale of Yamato” - monogatari of the second half of the 10th century. It is one of the most important monuments of Japanese literature of the Heian period. The author is unknown, but was probably close to the literary circles at the emperor's court. Yamato-monogatari focuses on life at the Heian court. The first part is dominated by waka poetry, with prose introductions introducing the context of each poem and its author. Themes are close to the court: weddings, love stories and, of course, secret relationships. The second part consists mainly of prose narratives, although poems remain, describing characters or legendary heroes. Two appendices are directly inspired by the Heichu-monogatari (Japanese: 平中物語 heichu: monogatari?), composed between 959 and 965, although the original was more concise and differed in some details..
