Almost a hundred years have passed since stories about the famous American detective Nat Pinkerton were last published in St. Petersburg. No one still knows who their author is, and whether these exciting, naive and creepy stories had one author, or, chasing the “long dollar,” different writers competed in invention, giving the American reader at the beginning of the century more and more new and new adventures of the fearless Pinkerton... Nowadays, the reader can smile at these creations, may accept some of them as a parody of the great Sherlock Holmes, but still these stories are fascinating; are fascinating if only because they allow us to experience the unknown world of adventure literature of the early twentieth century.
