Among the numerous works of the Belgian writer Jean Ray (aka Raymond Jean Marie de Cremer), a special place is occupied by works dedicated to a character named Harry Dixon. In the 1930s, a multi-volume epic about his adventures appeared. Ray—at the request of a publisher who wanted a “new Sherlock Holmes”—created the image of the American detective. Over 9 years, 178 issues were published, at intervals of either twice a month or once every two months. The cycle dedicated to Harry Dixon includes 99 short novels, including 44 fantasy, 7 science fiction and 48 with detective or spy plots, as well as about four dozen short stories and novellas. The works of this series are published in Russian for the first time.
