The seventh volume of the collected works of the classic of the Silver Age and Russian diaspora Boris Konstantinovich Zaitsev (1881–1972) includes the hagiographic narrative “Reverend Sergius of Radonezh” (1925), lyrical books of his pilgrimage wanderings “Athos” (1928) and “Valaam” ( 1936), religious stories and stories, as well as essays from the “Diary of a Writer”, dedicated to the history, development and traditions of Russian holiness. Monks, Optina elders, pilgrims and blessed ones, outstanding church leaders and simply Russian Orthodox people, who, by the will of fate, were cut off from Russia, but who have not lost their spiritual ties with it, are the heroes of this book. And in the center is the image of the most beloved saint of the Russian people - St. Sergius of Radonezh, who, according to Zaitsev, showed a combination of “scattered Russian traits in one,” an example of “clarity, transparent and even light.”
