This book opens the most complete collection of works by the outstanding master of lyrical prose, classic of the Silver Age and Russian diaspora, Boris Konstantinovich Zaitsev (1881–1972). After decades of oblivion and prohibitions, our multi-volume publication for the first time in such a significant volume will present to Russian readers the entire diversity of the creative heritage of the “seditious” writer, introducing dozens of his works that have never been published in Russia or have been published only in recent years. These are Zaitsev’s novels, the best of his novels and short stories, novelized biographies, three books of pilgrimage journeys, selected spiritual prose, memoirs, diaries, letters. The first volume includes the writer’s early stories and tales from four of his books, the novel “The Far Land.” The first reviews of the “new” prose of Zaitsev by V. Bryusov and Z. Gippius are published in the appendices.
