The book examines a number of issues related to the formation of legislation and law in archaic Athens, with the creation in one of the largest ancient Greek city policies of the first sets of written laws (VII - VI centuries BC). The names of the creators of these vaults - Dracon and Solon - are known to many, but the study of their activities always turns out to be fraught with significant difficulties. The reason for this is both the unsatisfactory state of the sources and the currently weak degree of knowledge of the general historical context of such an early era in the development of the ancient world. The author's greatest attention is drawn to the religious aspect of early legislation, which has received particularly little attention in previous historiography. Along the way, the specificity of the very phenomenon of ancient Greek law, which in many of its features is strikingly at odds with our modern ideas about legal systems and complexes, is examined. The book is intended for specialists - historians and lawyers, for everyone interested in the culture and society of antiquity.
