Lydia Chukovskaya’s book “In the Editor’s Laboratory” was written in the late 1950s and published in the early 1960s. The author summarizes his own editorial work and the work of his colleagues in the editorial office of the Leningrad Detgiz, the head of which until 1937 was S. Ya. Marshak. The book had considerable resonance in literary circles, was widely discussed, and then was forcibly removed from circulation, since the very name of Lydia Chukovskaya was banned for a long time. According to experts, nothing better has yet been created in this area. Nowadays, when the ranks of publishers have expanded enormously, the book will be useful and interesting to everyone involved in editorial activities. But the title should not narrow the circle of readers. The book teaches the art of the artistic word, its perception, filling the gaps in the literary and artistic education of readers.
