The universe speaks to a person in the “language of hint and suggestion” (Vyach. Ivanov), otherwise - in the language of symbols, perceiving which, a person comprehends the world. The ability to understand and interpret symbols and signs - an essential condition for survival in the environment - has been recognized since ancient times as one of the most important human arts. Symbolism took shape and developed over the centuries, gradually acquiring its own mythology: the numerous meanings attributed to symbols and the complex, multi-level relationships between symbols eventually led to the emergence of a unique mythological system - supranational, common to many peoples of the world. This book is dedicated to the evolution of the mythological system of symbols and its current state.
