When the battles between Christians and pagans died down and Christianity became the officially recognized religion of all of Europe, the ancient gods were expelled from this world. However, remnants of paganism persisted in rural areas, where ancient traditions and beliefs still existed, where fertility festivals were celebrated, where pagan rituals were performed - in the house, in the field, in the barnyard - either in secret or under the guise of Christian festivals. And the official religion could not do anything about it. Our book, dedicated to the pagan deities of Western Europe, attempts to describe the Indo-European mythological tradition (or Tradition, in the terminology of R. Guenon) in its entirety and against the backdrop of a centuries-old historical perspective.
