The Mediterranean was the “melting crucible” of the Ancient World: the Hittites, Hurrians, Phoenicians, Minoans, Hellenes, partly the Egyptians, Asia Minor Celts, Ligurians, Etruscans, and finally the Romans - all these peoples and tribes, even while maintaining “cultural autonomy,” contributed a significant contribution to the formation of a unified Mediterranean culture, which culminated in the culture of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. The most important cultural heritage of ancient times is mythology. This book is dedicated to the myths of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome and how they trace the influence of other, earlier mythological systems.
