This city has an incredible destiny. It is much younger than all the other large cities on the planet, but in just three centuries of its history it has become a world center and is among those “nodal points” that form the landscape of human civilization. It was in this city that Russian history repeatedly began anew, and its very foundation - cutting a “window to Europe” marked a break with the past and the emergence of a different Russia. This city is facing the future, there is no place for nostalgia in it, throughout its history it has invariably created new signs and new meanings. This city is St. Petersburg.
