A work written by a brilliant Russian publicist of the early 20th century, which poses the theme of the struggle between evil and good in an unusually frank manner, unusual for the modern reader, fed on the celluloid literature of troubled times. It was this frankness that caused a conspiracy of silence that united two seemingly irreconcilable camps: Soviet Bolsheviks and pro-Western democrats. This is a kind of apocalyptic novel, a prophecy of the inevitable crushing of all enemies of the Russian state. It seems important in this context to find out who the monarchist author actually meant by these enemies. Who are they in his historiosophical concept? Bolsheviks? To say this is to say nothing. Bolshevism was a multifaceted phenomenon, drawing strength from different sources. One of its most important sources, as Sadovskoy believed (and not without reason!), was the intelligentsia; not all, of course, just a part, however, alas, a larger, better organized, noisy, loud, aggressive, so-called intelligentsia, arrogant of themselves, disdainful of the people, simple life, and primordial traditions. They are depicted in “The Sixth Hour” in an openly negative, repulsive manner The topic raised by the author reveals the roots of both political movements, shows their spiritual kinship and a single misanthropic essence. It is important to understand that evil has many faces, and among them the most striking and sophisticated are communism and democracy. That is why both authors were actually banned in both the communist USSR and Yeltsin’s Russia.
