Conductor Rudolf Barshai belonged to the galaxy of great musicians of the 20th century. The Moscow Chamber Orchestra, which he created in the late fifties, captivated audiences all over the world. The orchestra's permanent partners were Svyatoslav Richter, David Oistrakh, and Emil Gilels. At the peak of his career in 1977, Barshai went to the West to play compositions that were banned in the USSR. He has led orchestras in Israel and Great Britain, Canada and France, Switzerland and Japan. In his declining years, in Switzerland, in front of the camera of film director Oleg Dorman, Barshai recalls his wandering childhood, his youth during the war years, love and loss, his legendary teachers, friends, colleagues - D. Shostakovich, I. Menuhin, M. Rostropovich , I. Stravinsky, is about the difficulties of emigration and the happy decades of free creativity. The book was created based on the documentary film “Nota”, filmed in 2010 by Oleg Dorman, the author of “Interlinear”, and is a confessional monologue of the maestro a month before his death.
