The novel takes place in 2301, when humanity managed to actively spread throughout the galaxy and populate many planets. However, the main events take place on Earth, where Ben Rich, the owner of Monarch, one of the largest terrestrial corporations, suffers every night from nightmares in which he is constantly haunted by the mysterious Man without a Face. Considering the culprit of these nightmares to be his main business competitor, Cray de Courtenay, whose cartel has recently been pushing Monarch in all positions, Rich decides to kill. But how to do this? After all, murders have not been committed for more than seventy years, and for good reason - no one’s thoughts, especially such ones, cannot escape the attention of members of the League of Telepathic Espers, commonly referred to as feelers. But a way was still found, and the seemingly forgotten crime was committed. Then began a long confrontation between the criminal and the detective - Rich and esper investigator Lincoln Powell.
