The prominent British prose writer Evelyn Waugh (1903–1966) is accurate and organic in his description of the life of the English aristocracy. While studying at Oxford, the future writer became close to the golden youth, and these impressions formed the basis of many of his books. At the center of the novel “A Fistful of Ashes” is the discord between the spouses Tony and Brenda, but this seemingly ordinary everyday situation, under the pen of the master, acquires a universal and tragic sound.
