The book of fairy tales and stories of 1001 Nights once amazed Europeans no less than the colorful colors of oriental fabrics, the shimmer of steel of merciless Muslim blades, the mysterious shine of multi-colored Arabic bowls. “1001 Nights” is a collection of fairy tales in Arabic, united by the fact that they were told to a cruel To King Shahryar, the beautiful Shahrazade. These fairy tales have no known authors; they have been collected into collections by various compilers over the centuries, and the most varied fairy tales have been combined - from moralizing, religious, magical, where the heroes are kings and veziers, to everyday, picaresque and even fairy tales, where the characters are animals. The book has gone through many editions, translations and publications in various languages of the world. This edition presents an eight-volume translation of 1929–1938 directly from Arabic, made by Mikhail Salye, edited by Academician I. Yu. Krachkovsky according to the Calcutta edition.
