Gymnasium student Tomek Vilmovsky lives with the family of his aunt Yanina - the boy’s mother died, and his disgraced father was forced to go abroad two years earlier. Suddenly, shortly before the end of the school year, an unexpected guest appears on the threshold of the aunt's house, an extravagant trapper and traveler named Jan Smuta. He tells Tomek about a father who misses his son very much, and about Hagenbeck's company, which captures wild animals for zoos. So Tomek receives an invitation to join the expedition to Australia and, of course, without hesitation for a second, he happily agrees. And what boy in his place would have acted differently?..
