Zhuangong or zhan zhuang (“pillar work” or “pillar standing”) is a system of exercises widely used both independently and as part of various complexes of health-improving and martial forms of qigong and wushu. The roots of these exercises go far back into the depths of millennia. The first mention of similar exercises can be found in the Treatise of the Yellow Emperor on the Inner - the legendary emperor who lived in the 26th century BC. In this book, the reader is presented with the Pillar Standing exercises, which are one of the components of the internal style of martial arts Yiquan (Dachengquan), popular today in the West. They are effective healing in nature and lay the foundation for the use of martial aspects of Yiquan. Admittedly, it was the books of Wang Xuanjie (one of the authors of this book and at the same time a student of Wang Xiangzhai, the creator of the style) that opened Yiquan to the Western world. The book provides historical information on the formation and development of the exercises. Instructions for performing exercises and the results of studies of the mechanisms of their effect on the human body are provided. Exercises can be useful for the treatment and prevention of a wide range of diseases, strengthening the physical constitution, nervous system, and have a beneficial effect on the general condition of the body.
