“Oh sport, you are the world!” This legendary slogan could have acquired a completely different interpretation in the Third Reich. National Socialist Germany could rightfully be considered one of the most athletic powers in the world. But the point was not at all to create a perfect and harmoniously developed person. The leadership of the Third Reich needed seasoned youth who were to become soldiers aimed at conquering the world. However, the sport could have other purposes. Without a doubt, the most important sporting event of the 1930s was the 1936 Olympics (winter and summer), which took place in Germany. The book by historian Andrei Vasilchenko tells how sports and the Olympic movement intertwined with politics and secret diplomacy. And, of course, the 1936 Berlin Olympics was at the center of this story.
