At the end of 1953, the book “Lucky Jim” was published in London, which was such a resounding success that it went through 10 editions in a year. In it, the author managed to capture and convey the mentality characteristic of English youth in the 50s. The man who wrote it immediately became one of the most popular, if not the most popular, English writer of the post-war generation. This was a teacher of English literature at one of the universities in Wales - Kingsley Amis.

Jim Dixon works as a history teacher at an English provincial university. He has been teaching there for the first year and is still undergoing a probationary period. From the very beginning, he, having a fair ability to get into stupid situations, makes a bad impression on his colleagues. It’s true that Dixon doesn’t like his colleagues either. But there is nothing to do - everyone wants to get into the staff, so, mentally drawing caricatures of his colleagues and making funny faces, Dixon tries to look like everyone else. However, at a musical evening hosted by an eccentric dean, Jim meets the girl of his dreams, and this meeting ultimately leads to unexpected results...
