In many ways echoing the problems of previous books, “The Myth of Eternal Return” speaks of the archaic perception of time as a series of repeating large and small cycles, marked by sacred events of creation, death and rebirth of the World. Cosmogonic ideas are associated with the archetype of Time, including the perception of space as a structurally marked whole with a Center identified in it. The cyclical time of myth is opposed by historical time and the problems of fate, personality, and faith that arise with it, called by the author “the horror of history.”
