This is not a play, it is a collection of texts for singing and recitation. Everything that is written - except for the titles - must be said on stage, everything is included in the text. There are no clearly defined characters here, except for the Soul, the dead Thief and the Jeweler. I have no idea how many doctors there should be, how many women, how many grandmothers in the choir, how many thieves are friends of the murdered man. For me they are voices in the darkness, in the darkness of the night. They sing their own and fall silent. Chickens should still cluck and dogs howl. That's how I hear it. Andrzej Stasiuk
