Death in the Discworld is not only an inevitable phenomenon, but also a two-meter skeleton with a scythe. He wears a black robe, measures the time of our lives using an hourglass, and SPEAKS IN CAPITAL LETTERS. And since Death has a personality, it means that curiosity and a sense of humor are also possible. Black humor, of course. And if so, Death will not deny himself the pleasure of fooling around and taking time off from work from time to time. To feel like a mortal man (Grim Reaper), or to give gifts to children for the Feast Day (Santa Grunt). And the responsibility of swinging a scythe can be assigned to a granddaughter or a student (Pestilence, a student of Death). Not fair? There is no justice, there is only Him! But every absence of Death leads to confusion in his domain. The auditors of reality are not asleep: the slightest mistake - and they will erase this world that exists on debt. Reality is so fragile, and people’s interventions in the normal course of things, even with the best intentions, confuse everything so much that Death will break his leg. I should give this small fry a whack with a scythe so they don’t mind their own business! But he won't. The old man has a kind bone heart. “It’s twelve o’clock at night and everything is calm!” - this is the motto of the Night Guard of Ankh-Morpork, the most glorious city on the entire Discworld. And if “not everything” is calm, then you are simply walking along the wrong streets. In general, to become a real night guard, you need to put in a lot of effort. Firstly, you should learn to run not too fast - otherwise you will suddenly catch up! Secondly, you need to understand the basic principle of surviving brutal battles - just don't participate in them. Thirdly, do not shout too loudly that “everything is calm” - they might hear you.
