Like many talented artists who went to the West during the period of so-called stagnation, which strangled all the sprouts of free thought with an iron hand, he left the USSR in order to be able to freely engage in his creativity. The lines of his poems, ironic at first glance, are imbued with truly filial pain for his humiliated Motherland - for Russia, for its patient, suffering people, doomed for 70 years to bear the heavy cross of atonement for the sins of their ancestors.
