“In a world overloaded with information, clarity is power. Almost everyone can contribute to the discussion about the future of humanity, but few have a clear idea of what it should be. Sometimes we don’t even notice that this debate is going on, and we don’t understand the essence of its key issues. Most of us don't have time to do this because we have more pressing things to do: we have to go to work, raise children, take care of elderly parents. Unfortunately, history does not make allowances for anyone. Even if the future of humanity is decided without your participation, because you were busy feeding and clothing your children, you (and your children) still cannot avoid the consequences. Yes, it's unfair. And who said that history is fair?..."

The Sinbad publishing house has made significant changes to the content of the translation, mainly in those places where Russia, Ukraine and Putin are mentioned. Although this was done with the permission of the author, a comparison of the versions seems interesting both to clarify the position of the author and to become familiar with the policies of some modern Russian publishing houses. This version of the file is supplemented with comments with the translation and source text of the differences found (perhaps not all). For ease of searching, added comments are marked with the word “post-truth.”

Author’s comment: “My main goal is to ensure that the ideas contained in this book about the threat of dictatorship, extremism and intolerance reach a wide and diverse audience. This also applies to audiences who live in non-democratic regimes. Some examples in the book may alienate these readers or cause censorship. In this regard, I sometimes allow some sharp examples to be changed, but I never change the key points in the book."
