A Russian sinologist, teaching Russian at one of the universities in China, accidentally ends up on the set of a Chinese film, which is taking place in the city of Dalian (formerly Dalniy). Part of the filming, which involves Russian and American actors, as well as students from Russia, takes place in Luishuni (formerly Port Arthur), which gives the hero of the story the opportunity to get acquainted with the legendary port.
