The author of these notes had the opportunity to get acquainted with the peculiarities of the life of the Chinese people, and learn something about the life of compatriots coming to China. He had to communicate directly with representatives of different sectors of Chinese society, from students to professors, from simple market traders to representatives of Chinese officials. Of course, knowledge of the Chinese language played a big role, which helped to penetrate more deeply into what he saw and heard than other compatriots. Some phenomena became unexpected discoveries. Some things were frankly shocking, some aroused respect.
