The new book by N. A. Sindalovsky is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the October events of 1917 and the study of the preceding 100-year period of riots, insurrections, uprisings and revolutions that occurred in the Northern capital, starting with the mutiny of the Semenovsky regiment in 1820 and ending the establishment of Bolshevik power in the early 1920s. As in his previous books, the author examines events, looking at them through the magic crystal of urban mythology, which makes the official history more vivid, imaginative and memorable. Legends and traditions, proverbs and sayings, ditties and anecdotes, preserved in the arsenal of urban folklore, without claiming to be the ultimate truth, brought to us not only the flavor of the passing time, but also the point of view of grassroots, folk culture on certain events. For the first time in many years, the author decided to present his poetic experiments to the public. So the new book offered to the reader will open another facet of the talent of the recognized expert on St. Petersburg folklore.
