Folklore, unlike official historiography, is not subject to “ideological orders”. It exists freely according to its own mysterious laws, selectively consolidating in the people’s memory events of the most varied scale and significance. In the proposed book, N. A. Sindalovsky scrupulously collected stories and legends born in St. Petersburg from the day of its inception to the present day. Taken together, all this is not only extremely curious and entertaining. What the author has told allows us to more clearly imagine the lifestyle and psychology of our predecessors, helps us understand their fantasies, fears, concerns, helps us understand the mechanism of the emergence of myths and the formation of mass consciousness in a world without television.
