The Acts of the Danes (Gesta Danorum) by Saxo Grammar (c. 1140–1206/1220) is the main source on the history of medieval Denmark and much of the other Scandinavian countries from ancient times to the end of the 12th century. Many historical stories and legends have survived to this day only in Saxo’s retelling. The chronicle is composed of 16 books written in Latin.
