The book presents the results of the innovative research project “Political Atlas of Modernity”, implemented by MGIMO (U) of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Institute of Public Design and with the support of Expert magazine. As part of the project, a global comparative study of 192 sovereign states of the modern world was carried out, their typologies were developed based on multivariate statistical analysis. The book contains an overview of precedents for the use of quantitative methods in the comparative study of political systems, a description of the methodological apparatus of the study and the main results of the study. The results are presented in the form of ratings of countries according to five indices (statehood, external and internal threats, potential for international influence, quality of life, institutional foundations of democracy), in the form of a multidimensional classification and multi-scale clustering of countries around the world and are reflected in the form of tables, graphs, maps. Separate chapter is dedicated to Russia's place in the world in comparison with other states. Intended for researchers, politicians, journalists, as well as anyone interested in modern problems of statehood, democracy, international relations and the latest achievements of political science. Can be used in the educational process in higher education.
