The novels “Crime and Punishment”, “The Idiot”, along with “Demons”, “The Teenager” and “The Brothers Karamazov”, are included in the so-called “pentateuch” of F. M. Dostoevsky: their role in world literature is compared in importance to the first five books of the Bible - the Pentateuch of Moses. Deeply social and at the same time treating the fundamental issues of existence, these novels largely changed our ideas about the possibilities of literature and human nature. The first of these great works of Dostoevsky was the novel “Crime and Punishment” (1866). It was intended as a “psychological report of a crime,” but the writer deviated far from his original plans, forcing the reader to think about sin and redemption, about the boundaries of what is permitted, about spiritual death and resurrection. Dostoevsky formulated the main idea of the novel “The Idiot” (1868) as follows: “...Depict a positively beautiful person. There is nothing more difficult in the world than this, especially now.” “Prince Christ” comes out to preach, and in his words Dostoevsky puts his cherished thoughts about the Russian soul and faith.
