The book includes the famous works of Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky (1821–1881): the novel “Poor People”, the story “White Nights” and the Christmas story “The Boy at Christ’s Christmas Tree”. The novel in letters “Poor People” (1845) brought Great glory to Dostoevsky. It reflected the social problems of St. Petersburg society in the mid-19th century. After reading it, Belinsky wrote that Dostoevsky is “a completely unknown and new name, but which seems destined to play a significant role in our literature.” Dostoevsky’s story “White Nights” (1848) is also called a “sentimental novel.” Her hero is a poor dreamer who suffers from loneliness. Falling in love illuminates his life for several days, but his feelings are destined to remain unanswered. In the Christmas story “The Boy at Christ's Christmas Tree” (1876), Dostoevsky raises the theme of an abandoned and hungry child, characteristic of his work. In his dying dreams, a freezing boy's dream comes true: he finds himself at the New Year's holiday - "Christ's Christmas tree."
