The social institutions that fill and orient our lives seem to us to be something unshakable and necessary, each of them performs its own function and is filled with meaning. But are they all really necessary and reasonable? What would happen if we suddenly learned that social hierarchies, the institution of marriage and the domestication of animals arose in ancient times not out of any necessity, but simply out of men’s struggle for prestige? What if the domestication of cereals was not aimed at baking bread, but happened during ritual practices with alcoholic libations? Will we consider a person intelligent if we understand that the most important milestones in his history were either the fruit of chance or an inadequate understanding of reality? To what extent are Homo sapiens really?
