The second volume of the novel “The Dreamers of Broadway” - and again immersion in marvelous New York! A city that seemed like a dream. A city that promised a fairy tale. A city you look forward to meeting - just like with the heroes of your favorite novel. Jocelyn left his native France to find himself here - on Broadway, of course, in the very heart of musical life. He was just seventeen, and every new day gave hope - but now, on the threshold of adulthood, Jocelyn feels something different. What is this disappointment? Failure of plans? Falling from heaven to earth? Not at all: old dreams are replaced by new ones, and with them - experience. In the second part of “Dreamers” the action accelerates and spins in the same crazy rhythm, but this music in the background is no longer sweet Christmas ballads, but cool jazz. Enchanting - and so real. Like Jocelyn, the girls from the Jibuleh boarding house are growing up and step by step moving towards their true selves. Dancer Manhattan is getting closer to solving a long-standing mystery, saleswoman Hadley is successfully delving into the past, fashion model Chic is looking for a profitable match, and actress Paige is looking for the One and Only. New York in the late 1940s will help them all - though not at all, they are waiting for it. French writer Malika Ferdzhukh (born 1957) is the author of dozens of popular novels for children and teenagers, winner of the prestigious Sorcier Prize (Prix Sorcières). She previously studied film history, and the atmosphere of Hollywood classics is easy to sense in the pages of her books: The Broadway Dreamers trilogy is dynamic like Singin' in the Rain, unpredictable like Sunset Boulevard, and optimistic like Some Like It Hot. Nina Khotinskaya's excellent translation preserved the rhythm and style of the original in Russian. Time with this book will fly faster than Fred Astaire dancing!
