This edition presents the most complete collection of poems by Vladimir Nabokov. The selection was made by the author himself, but he did not have time to see the book in print. The collection was published in 1979 by the American publishing house “Ardis” with a laconic author’s title – “Poems”; In the preface, also included in our publication, Vera Nabokova identified the main theme of Nabokov’s work: “I’m talking about otherworldliness, as he himself called it...”, that secret “which he carries in his soul and which he should not and cannot give out.” And although the purpose of art, as Nabokov believed, lies “in sublime and uninhabited places, and by no means in a densely populated area of emotional outpourings,” in his poems he does not hide feelings behind the carnival masks of his heroes. “Read Nabokov’s poems,” wrote Andrei Bitov, “if you absolutely need to know who this man was. “He confessed quite a lot in his poems...” You will see Nabokov both crying and praying.”
