The book analyzes problems (the crisis of the modern personality, the declaration of the death of the subject and culture, the clash of different ideals of life, etc.), forcing the creation of a new philosophical discipline - the philosophy of subjectivity. The subject of the philosophy of subjectivity is discussed. From the author’s point of view, subjectivity is a form of awareness (conceptualization) of personality, which developed in ancient culture and further in subsequent cultures (medieval, Renaissance, modern and modern times), underwent transformation and developed. Not only the conscious aspects and aspects of a person’s life play an essential role in the content of subjectivity, but also the forms of conceptualization on the basis of which this awareness occurs. Four main stages in the formation of subjectivity are considered (in ancient culture, in the Middle Ages, within the framework of the Cartesian-Kantian picture, in postmodernity). Such forms of subjectivity as love, scientific creativity, experiencing works of art, technical consciousness, constituting one’s life, and understanding of health are characterized. At the same time, reconstructions of the history of relevant phenomena are combined with the analysis of specially selected cases, philosophical discourse with cultural discourse.
