The West put forward a worthy replacement for the mighty veterans only in the late 50s and early 60s. First, young Bobby Fischer loudly announced himself, and then the Dane Bent Larsen. Larsen's tournament success and fresh, inventive play from 1964 to 1970 even allowed him to take the "legitimate" first board from Fischer in the aforementioned "Match of the Century." The threat to Soviet hegemony then came only from the two of them. However, Fischer soon brilliantly proved that it was he who was destined to become the new world champion. The fourth volume is dedicated to the world champion Fischer, as well as other outstanding chess players of the West - Reshevsky, Najdorf and Larsen. Fischer, who in the early 70s managed to single-handedly crush the Soviet chess car; his revolutionary breakthrough and tragic departure from chess is the main theme of volume 4.
