In the 1960s, Petrosyan and Spassky appeared on the chess Olympus - seemingly ordinary, non-heroic champions. But a detailed study of their work shows the enormous scale of talent of these chess kings, and their time on the throne became an important stage in the accumulation of knowledge - a kind of cementing period when the foundation of modern chess was laid.
