This book, published in the academic series “Literary Monuments” under the title: “The History of the Affairs of the Grand Duke of Moscow” by Prince Andrei Kurbsky, is one of the most remarkable monuments of ancient Russian literature of the second half of the 16th century. Its author is a representative of the Yaroslavl branch of the princely family of Rurikovich Andrei Mikhailovich Kurbsky (1528–1583), governor and boyar of the first Russian Tsar Ivan IV Vasilyevich the Terrible (1530–1584). While on his annual military service in the Livonian border town of Yuryev, Kurbsky, accompanied by 12 faithful servants, made a secret night escape to the neighboring Livonian fortress of Volmar on April 30, 1564 and then transferred to the Polish royal service, receiving for this from the Polish king and Grand Duke of Lithuania Sigismund II Augusta Jagiellonian generous land grants in Lithuania and Volyn on fief rights. During his many years of stay on the territory of the Polish Crown and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Kurbsky wrote his famous “History” about Ivan the Terrible. The original of this historical and literary work has not survived. Its text is now known only in numerous copies as part of the “Kurbsky collections” of the last quarter of the 17th - first third of the 19th century. In the earliest and most correct copies, the text is entitled: “The story of the Great Prince of Moscow.” In previous scientific literature and in social and cultural usage, a later modified name was assigned to this work: “The Story of the Grand Duke of Moscow.” In this edition, its translation is printed under the modernized title of the earliest and correct lists - “The History of the Affairs of the Grand Duke of Moscow.” CONTENTS: From the editor (Yu.D.
